Idiot Governor of Kentucky seizes gambling domains
In the most recent episode of “Which politician is the biggest idiot”, the Governor of Kentucky, Steve Beshear, has proven he rates right up there with the best of them. The Governor,

Governor Steve Beshear
recently had Secretary of Justice, Michael Brown, file a civil action against 141 online gambling domains, claiming that because the promote or provide illigal activities in the State of Kentucky, the State has the right to sieze the domains.
A hearing was held on September 18th and the just as idiotic Judge, decided there was probable cause to believe the companies that own these domains are promoting or providing illigal activities in Kentucky. Because of this probable cause, the Judge ruled that all 141 domains should be siezed and turned over to the State of Kentucky. These domains include some of the largest gambling sites in the world, such as Pokerstars, Full Tilt Poker, Doyles Room, Absolute Poker, BodogLife, Cake Poker and more.
One problem with this lawsuit and Judges decision is that most of these companies are not U.S. companies, nor are the domains registered in the U.S.. Another slight problem is that there is no law in Kentucky that says online poker is illegal.
So now, with everything else going on in the World, as well as this Country… a war in the Middle East, the housing market taking a dump, the financial industry near collapse, gas prices 30% higher than a year ago, layoffs at some of the largest employers in the World, we have to spend more time and money on an issue that is being persued for only one reason. MONEY!
One of Kentucky’s biggest money makers and the States only thing they are really recognized for,

The Kentucky Derby
Horse Racing and the Kentuck Derby, is being protected. The Governor thinks that if he can get rid of all the other options for gamblers, he can increase the income to the Kentucky race tracks and therefore increase the income to the State with taxes.
The Governor’s thought that if peolple can’t bet on the race online, they will have to go to the track to do it is asinine. Other sites will pop up. Local bookies will take bets. And new ways of accepting bets will surface. But rather than think of ways to accept what the public obviously wants, online gambling, it’s easier to just stay with the old way and try and get rid of it. How much money could Kentucky bring in if they legalized online gambling in the State, regulated it and taxed it, just like any other business? The thought of legalizing online gambling is not something new. California has been talking about legalizing and regulating online poker for a while now. Legislation is expected in 2009 to attempt to legalize it.
So chalk up a few hundred thousand, or more, dollars of wasted taxpayer money to the newest member of the idiot club, Governor Steve Beshear, of Kentucky. Let’s all watch as he wastes precious assets chasing down companies that don’t deserve to be chased, with money that shouldn’t be wasted, for a crime that doesn’t exist, against people that don’t think they are being harmed. Nice job Gov!
