I know, it seems a little harsh to not care about other people.  Deep down I do really care.  But on the surface, it just bothers me that we have to go through this same scenario multiple times every year.

People that live on the coast have chosen to accept the good with the bad.  When you buy or rent property near a coast, you get great views, cooler weather and easy access to the beach among other benefits.

You also get the obvious risk of weather.  It’s no surprise.  Every year hurricanes form and every year hurricanes cause damage.  Florida, Louisianna, Texas are all in harmes way every year.  Millions of people build their homes and businesses on or near the coast knowing they could lose it.

So, when the inevitable happens, should I have to pay for it?  Should I care when they lose their houses and boats and cars? 

I care about the kids that lose their houses.  I care about the animals that did nothing wrong.  But should I care about the adults that chose to do this?  How about the ones that lose everything and then re-build on the same spot?  Should we help them a 2nd time when it happens again?

I don’t have all the answers, but it just seems like anyone who lives in these areas have accepted the risk way ahead of time.  I have a house and I didn’t build it on the edge of a cliff.  The views would be unbeatable, but would it be worth the risk of losing everything, including maybe my family, if the house fell down the mountain?

I’m all for helping the truly needy, but are victims of hurricane damage really victims and are they really the ones that deserve all the attention and help in this Country?
